The Talk Boss Does Shrimp & Sausage [Summer Recipe Series]
As most of you know, I LOVE to entertain with delicious food. Heck, I even host a talk show literally called “Culinary Conversations”! Summer – and I hope this doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone – is my favorite season for spending time in my kitchen. Seasonal recipes around this time of year are actually pretty healthy, especially compared to that pesky Holiday season.
I’ll admit, I finally jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon. Say what you will, but that site is FILLED with recipes from ‘round the globe. One such recipe, Skillet Shrimp & Sausage, inspired me to share it with you today because it is the healthiest way you can eat since it works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic!! Paleo eating plus exercise will help you lose fat and get healthy. I know you will love it! But as always, I had to add my signature Talk Boss spice – this time quite literally…
First gather the ingredients below:
1lb Shrimp (I like them large, but any size will do)
8oz Spicy Italian Sausage
2 Garlic Cloves, chopped
2 Green Bell Peppers, chopped
1 Red Bell Pepper, chopped
1 Yellow Onion, chopped
1 Zucchini, sliced & chopped
¼ Chicken Stock
½ Cup of Freshly-Chopped Basil
1 tbsp Creole Seasoning
2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
2 tsp Paprika
1 tsp salt
Parmesan Cheese to taste (since this was originally a Paleo recipe, it’s optional!)
and a varying amount of coconut oil (just enough to cover your pan + a little extra)
That may seem like a big list of ingredients, but most of these you probably already have. Simply gather up that produce and the best sausage and shrimp your local grocery has to offer, and let’s get crackin’!
Step 1: Heat the biggest skillet you have to medium-high and pour in your coconut oil.
Step 2: Season the shrimp with the Creole seasoning.
Step 3: Cook shrimp for just under 5 minutes until they are opaque (but not burnt!)
Step 4: Set shrimp aside, throw in the peppers, zucchini, and onion. Add a dash more of coconut oil.
Step 5: After 2-3 minutes, put the shrimp back in.
Step 6: After 2 minutes, pour chicken stock into the pan and mix.
Step 7: Turn to Medium heat. Add salt, spices, and seasoning.
Step 8: Mix occasionally for five minutes, then remove from heat
Step 9: Enjoy!
Now, being a lover of flavor, it’s taking all my energy to not throw in even more spices! But when you get that perfect shrimp or sausage, you REALLY don’t want to detract from that amazing, fresh flavor. My advice? Stay strong, it’ll be so worth it!
I can’t wait to share with you other recipes I try as the summer goes on. If you have any particular requests, let me know in the comments below, tweet @keciaclarke with the hashtag #TalkBoss, or just write on my facebook wall here.
